3 Reasons You Should Try Hypnotherapy

1. It’s highly effective and transformative.

There was a client who was having trouble moving forward in her career. She refused to get up and make presentations at meetings and she also declined offers to manage projects. She also had no social life and no relationship.

At her third hypnotherapy session she remembered how in the 5th grade the teacher asked her to come to the blackboard and spell the word “cat”. Well, she spelled it “kat” and the whole class erupted into hysterics, laughing at her and ridiculing her, plus the teacher got really angry at her for not only misspelling the word but for disrupting the class.

And the 10-year-old her decided in that moment that is was unsafe to put herself in front of people. That need for safety and security, while maybe useful in grade school, blocked her from getting promoted at work and forming meaningful relationships.

So, using hypnotherapy she chose a new belief about herself and what it means to be safe and resolved the issues she had making friends and she finally started moving forward in her career.

We all have goals we wish to achieve but if there is a subconscious program that blocks us from successfully reaching that goal then we remain stuck in a cycle of frustration and disappointment.

Hypnotherapy is very effective in transforming old, limiting beliefs and programming in order to reach all of our goals: career, relationships and health.

2. It’s faster and more affordable than conventional therapy.

While taking the 500 hours of training to be certified as a medical support clinical hypnotherapist I became friends with one of the other students. He was a nurse practitioner who wanted to add hypnotherapy to his toolbox to help his patients with pain control, healing acceleration and phobias dealing with the medical field. He had a very traumatic childhood with physical and emotional abuse. He also started his medical training and career in New York City in the 1980’s during the AIDS epidemic. He watched a lot of his patients, people he became close with over many months of care, die a slow, painful death.

A few years ago, he was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He started seeing a psychotherapist to deal with his past memories and stress. He had been seeing his therapist for about a year and half when he started the Hypnotherapy Academy. The training is very hands on and experiential. So, you learn about a technique and then you practice live with the other students. Also, you are encouraged to have private, professional sessions outside of class if there are deeper issues you would like to address.

So he was not only experiencing at least one student lead session a day (there were sometimes practice sessions after class and on weekends), and he was having at least one professional session a week, plus once an hour he was doing his “homework” of spending one minute focusing on his breath and reciting his suggestions and affirmations (his watch would vibrate and notify him when it was time, oh and by the way, not one of the 25 other students knew he was doing that once an hour).

Because class was 9am-6pm Monday through Friday he needed to see his patients in the evening and on weekends, so he wasn’t able to see his therapist for about 5 weeks.

When they did finally meet again, she was so impressed by how much progress he made in five weeks as opposed to the year and six months they had just been talking about his issues that his therapist signed up for the next semester at the Hypnotherapy Academy and is now a certified hypnotherapist.

All that hypnotherapy he was doing was moving his body out of the sympathetic stress response (fight or flight) and moving it into the parasympathetic relaxation response (balance and homeostasis). With the clinical hypnotherapy he was also able to remove and alter the emotional trauma from his subconscious programming and his nervous system calmed down.

This is not to say that hypnotherapy is a “quick fix.” Unfortunately, there is no magic wand, no miracle cure. Hypnotherapy is something that we, my client and I, do together — they commit to their intentions and I assist and guide them using scientifically proven techniques.

Most goals and issues are resolved using hypnotherapy in 3-6 sessions.

3-4 sessions for many habits.

5-6 or more sessions for resolving limiting beliefs and trauma reversal.

8 sessions for healing Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Overactive Bladder Syndrome.

Sessions are 70-90 minutes on average, or as long as required for completion.

3. It’s versatile and applicable to many different ailments.

“I’ve recommended hypnotherapy to help ease chronic pain, lessen the side effects of chemotherapy, alleviate symptoms of autoimmune disease, and counteract anxiety and sleep disorders. Hypnotherapy can also be used to improve performance skills, as a form of analgesia or sedation for medical and dental procedures – even to stop hemorrhaging in accident victims. In general, I believe that no condition is out of bounds for trying hypnotherapy on.

It’s been shown that hypnosis can help with so many different problems, from cancer to teeth grinding and everything in between. Because of the very strong connection between the mind and the body, hypnotherapy taps into your mind and body’s natural ability to heal.

The placebo effect is a well-accepted example of how the mind can positively affect the body. Just as powerful, but not as well known, is the nocebo effect. That is when a person’s negative beliefs create negative physical effects on the body.

Modern medicine is now realizing how strong that link is, and how much your mind really impacts your health. That is what makes hypnosis so powerful with such a wide variety of ailments. It’s one of the best tools you can use to positively impact the mind and how you think about yourself, life, and others.

So, just how powerful is your mind?

It’s been shown that the placebo effect can sometimes be so powerful as to completely cure diseases in some cases. Just as powerful, the nocebo has been shown to cause premature death in rare instances.

If that can happen almost by accident, imagine what can be done by utilizing some of these tools on purpose, with your own best benefit in mind?
