Hypnotherapy can help with different emotional and health issues including sleep issues, eliminating fears and anxiety relief.
Talk therapy works with the conscious mind where we have analytical thought, willpower, create goals, and plan. But according to neuroscientists that only makes up 5% of mind. The other 95% is the subconscious mind, which runs our bodily systems, stores our habits, creates emotions, and holds our beliefs, fears, and judgments about ourselves and the world around us.
So whenever there is conflict between the analytical and the emotional minds, emotions win every time. It doesn’t matter how “illogical” it is to feel anxious about something, if you feel fear and this issue triggers emotional upset then that will win out.
Hypnotherapy deals with the subconscious by using the body and mind’s natural ability to deeply relax (everyone can do this even if you think you cannot). And that’s why hypnotherapy only takes 3-4 sessions and not 18 months with talk therapy where you still do not see results.
There is nothing magical or mystical about hypnosis and has nothing to do with how it’s portrayed in movies and on TV. Hypnosis is just another word or deep, natural relaxation. In fact, the word “hypnosis” is just the Greek word for “sleep”, because this meditative, natural relaxed state of mind and body looks like sleep. By placing your body and mind in the relaxed state of hypnosis again and again, the body and mind learn to be back in the parasympathetic nervous system (the relaxation response) and to turn off the sympathetic nervous system (the stress response).
This is a lot of information already so I’ll leave it at that and we can go into more specifics on sleep, the stress response and the mind over the phone if you’d like.
While I do see people in-person in Flagstaff, where I live full time now, most of my sessions over the last 3 years have been over Zoom and they work very well, in fact, research shows that virtual sessions may work a little bit better than in-person because people feel comfortable, safe and relaxed in their homes.
. In fact, if you look about halfway down on the homepage of my website, you’ll see three testimonials. Those 3 reviews were all Zoom sessions, New York, Florida and Phoenix.

“People think hypnosis is a means of taking away control, but it is actually a means of enhancing control, over perceptions such as pain, anxiety, habits, stress. I teach my patients to use it for themselves to address the problem they are dealing with. It is a powerful treatment extender.”
Dr. David Spiegel, M.D.
Medical Director of the Center for Integrative Medicine at
Stanford University School of Medicine
“If somebody told you there was a medication that could treat 100 different conditions, didn’t require a prescription, and had no bad side effects, you wouldn’t believe them.
“I don’t want to sound like a snake oil salesman, because hypnosis is not a magic wand. But it should be made available as a supplementary treatment for all patients who could benefit. Right now.”
Dr. Carol Ginandes, PhD.
Assistant Clinical Professor, Dept. of Psychiatry
Harvard Medical School
