If you ever find yourself eating because of any of the following reasons: boredom, anxiety, depression, reward, stress, time of day, other people… then hypnotherapy can help you. Some people do not eat out of hunger or to fuel their bodies. They engage in what is called Emotional Eating.
Many people turn to food for comfort — consciously or unconsciously — when they’re facing a difficult problem, feeling emotionally unfulfilled, or looking to keep themselves occupied. Sometimes when you are feeling emotionally weak, you will find that your longing for food increases.
The good news is that if you are prone to emotional eating, hypnotherapy will help you regain control of your eating habits and create a healthier lifestyle.
Hypnosis is a safe and natural weight loss method. In fact, hypnosis is the only method that helps you reach a healthy weight without having to use will power. It has everything to do with the state of mind. Once you re-educate your subconscious mind, you never have trouble again. With hypnosis you re-educate how you think about food and change your attitude toward food.
After resolving the core issues and emotional reasons for weight gain, suggestion therapy is used to encourage healthy eating and exercising. These positive affirmations are designed to bypass the conscious reasoning mind.
Through the hypnosis sessions, you will create new beliefs, values and thinking patterns that will help you achieve and permanently maintain a healthy weight (or achieve another specific goal).
Hypnotherapy will make it easier to follow a healthy lifestyle. Hypnotherapy encourages you to embrace a mindset that will support you across all areas of life. For this reason, most hypnosis sessions for weight loss also build confidence and self-esteem.
“Studies show that people who combine diet and exercise with hypnosis lose more weight than they do with diet and exercise alone.” Allure Magazine, January 2010
In one study, 60 obese people with sleep apnea were either given dietary advice, hypnotherapy for stress reduction or hypnotherapy for reducing calorie intake.
After three months, all the groups lost comparable amounts of weight. However, only the group receiving hypnotherapy for stress reduction had sustained their weight loss after 18 months. [National Institutes of Health]
In another study, 109 people underwent behavioral treatment for weight loss, either with or without hypnosis. After two years, the hypnotherapy group continued to lose weight, while the control group exhibited fewer further changes in weight. [National Institutes of Health]
An analysis of several studies found that adding hypnosis to a cognitive behavioral treatment for weight reduction resulted in nearly double the amount of weight loss. [National Institutes of Health]
“Even after a persuasive mid-nineties reanalysis of 18 hypnotic studies showed that psychotherapy clients who learned self-hypnosis lost twice as much weight as those who didn’t (and, in one study, kept it off two years after treatment ended), hypnotherapy has remained a well-kept weight loss secret.” Jean Fain, Psychotherapist and Clinical Hypnotherapist, Faculty at the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School
“With weight loss the evidence is conclusive…hypnosis does help people reduce.”
– Smithsonian Magazine
Genuine change requires genuine desire!
Your subconscious mind has many beliefs about losing weight. You might automatically think: Losing weight is impossible, that you don’t want to give up your favorite foods, or that you don’t have time for exercise.
These unconscious thoughts – which are shaped by memories, experiences and expectations – ultimately drive our conscious actions, and we don’t even realize this is happening.
In short, our subconscious sets us up to fail. And that’s true about many of our bad habits – negative self-talk, smoking, overeating – they’re all deeply rooted in unconscious thought.
Through hypnotherapy we can begin to alter and update these negative assumptions.
Hypnotherapy is not magic. It requires that you are a willing participant in the process.
You need to be motivated and willing to change for best results.
Most studies that have demonstrated a positive effect of hypnosis on weight loss have used it in combination with a weight management program. This research showed that hypnosis was able to enhance weight loss when paired with dietary advice or behavioral treatment.
I do not recommend a particular approach to eating, weight loss or exercise, but I do help you discover the approach that works best for you and remove any limiting subconscious blocks you may have towards achieving your health goals.
Hypnotherapy helps to anchor new beliefs about one’s own ability to make positive changes to regain health, vigor and ideal weight, as well as to live a happy and successful life. Without a strong and positive self-esteem it can be difficult to actively engage with life.
